Gomes Kopp and her husband, Alyssa’s stepfather, are German but have a home on the Greek island of Crete. They had been adopted by a German family, and Gomes Kopp had offered to bring them over. Gomes Kopp was allowed into an aircraft loading area one time, but has not been allowed back since.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ancient stone tools found in western Ukraine may be the oldest known evidence of early human presence in Europe, according to research published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Archaeologists used new methods to date the layers of sedimentary rock surrounding the tools to more than 1 million years old. The chipped stone tools were likely used for cutting meat and perhaps scraping animal hides, he said. The very earliest stone tools of this type were found in eastern Africa and date back to 2.8 million years ago, said Rick Potts, who directs the Smithsonian Institution's Human Origins Program. “The oldest humans with this old stone tool technology were able to colonize everywhere from warm Iberia (Spain) to Ukraine, where it's at least seasonally very cold – that’s an amazing level of adaptability,” said Potts.

(AP) — New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was arrested Thursday on charges related to illegal online gaming while he was under age and played at Louisiana State University, authorities said. Boutte is accused of creating an online betting account under a fake name and then placing more than 8,900 illegal bets. Six were wagers on LSU football, according to a state police news release. Seventeen wagers were made on NCAA football, which included wagers on LSU football between Aug. 28, 2022, and Oct. 9, 2023, the warrant states. Six of the wagers were on LSU football, including one game — LSU versus Florida State — where he bet on himself, investigators allege.

The yacht Grazie Mamma II carried its crew along the coastlines and archipelagos of the Mediterranean. Its last adventure was off the coast of Morocco last week, when it encountered a pod of orcas. The marine animals slammed the yacht’s rudder for 45 minutes, causing major damage and a leak, according to Morskie Mile, the boat’s Polish operators. The crew escaped, and rescuers and the Moroccan Navy tried to tow the yacht to safety, but it sank near the port of Tanger Med, the operator said on its website. The largest of the dolphin family, orcas are playful apex predators that hunt sharks, whales and other prey but are generally amiable to humans in the wild.

Analysts said, however, that Asiana's greenlighting of the cargo unit sale did not necessarily ensure smooth sailing ahead for the deal. They noted the desired valuation for the air cargo unit of some 700 billion won ($520 million) including debt, as reported by local media, was probably too high. Approving the sale was a contentious issue at Asiana amid concerns that a takeover by Korean Air would lead to the loss of many Asiana jobs. British Airlines will stop loading flights with meals for all passengers to reduce food waste. Last month the airline brought back free tea and coffee for passengers on short-haul flights. British Airways is trialing a new catering system where it won't load enough food for all passengers on a flight in a bid to tackle food waste. This included scrapping free beverages for passengers on its short-haul economy flights, the Sunday Times reported. Last month it started giving passengers free tea and coffee again on its short-haul routes.
